Rod knock, trading in...just replace bearings?
Rod knock, trading in...just replace bearings?
Ok, this is on my 97 formula, 69K miles.
Long story made short- I believe have a bad rod bearing, not at idle, but at the "sweet spot" where you are not on the gas much but not coasting. some metal in oil/filter. Plenty of oil pressure. This just happened and has been driven for around 5 miles since the noise.
I had planned on trading this car in on a new Chevy Colorado/Canyon.
Can I just order up the rod bearings, lube and a pan gasket, replace them from the bottom, and send it away? Would the motor possibly be ok?
Just thinking out some options here....I have found a similar mile shortblock for $500 local....

Re: Rod knock, trading in...just replace bearings?
If indeed the rod is knocking it is probably way too far along and has damaged the crank and/or rod. You will probably need to regrind or replace the crank and/or resize the rod.
