RKsport Y pipe/ Milodon oil pan
RKsport Y pipe/ Milodon oil pan
I tried to mock up the off road y pipe with the headers and new motor outside of the car. I have a Milodon oil pan and the ORY basically touches the pan across the front of it. If you are facing the front of the motor and look at the oil pan where it dips to the bottom, that's where the y pipe cuts across it. It is across this section that the pipe touches the pan. What are my options? I am already thinking about selling them and going with longtubes but if there's an easy solution, I will try it. Anyone else have this problem?
I had the same issue last week with my Miloden oil pan and y pipe for the SLP mid's. I know there has to be a better way than what I did but a BFH and about 15 minutes was all it took to get it to fit.
Yeah, I really don't want to BFH it though because it's brand new and I don't want stuff banging down there. The section of the pipe that crosses the front of the pan is what touches. It doesn't completely touch, I could probably slip a sheet of paper between the pipe and pan. The Milodon pan must be bigger if you are having trouble with the slp y pipe. wrd1972 is your setup put together yet, does yours touch too? I don't have pics right now.

This fitment was unacceptable so I bolted the big pipe down to a 4' 2x10 piece of lumber by its flange, have some buddies stand on the board so now the pipe is essentially anchored to the floor. I then heated the pipe with oxy-acetylene at the bend and bent it up about 3/4" or so. What this did was allow the big pipe to fit in there exactly the way it should and I now have about an inch or so of clearance around the stock pan. This was no doubt the biggest PITA with installing the RK sport headers.
The coating did get damaged where a layed the heat on but this is unavoidable. Once the pipe is cherry red and unless you are strong SOB you may not be able to bend the pipe by hand, I used the floor jack between the 2x10 board and the pipe. Just be sure the pipe collector is bolted to the board very securely. This will work to fix the y-pipe with a stock oil pan. Believe it or not the tube does not kink or wrinkle or do anything funky to create a bottle neck, just dont use the BFH to dent anything. That is ghetto and there is always a better way or get different parts.
Now on to your Milodon oil pan, from what I have seen most aftermarket oil pans don't work well with our headers due to how the driver side header wants to hug the pan, I saw this in a post a while back. Most people need long tube headers to clear the bigger aftermarket pan. Be sure to check these clearances.
I am very anxious to hear if you manage to get that pan on with those RK Sport headers because I want a higher volume oil pan on my new 355.
PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED ON YOUR PROGRESS.
Do you have the art number 30909 pan?
