Ring Gapping

I got a .030 oversized hyper KB piston now im ready to gap the rings but my Question is does .0065 gap sound right to you? And also they say the top ring needs gapped bigger cause of it running hotter they say to multiply the bore diameter by the apropriate ring end gap factor from the adjoining chart which is .0065. These number seem to small to me can anyone give me some advice.

That is actually .0065 per inch of bore size. So if your bore is 4.030 then multiply by .0065 and you get a suggested ring gap of .026. I use a lot of the KB pistons in my 383's and they do very well gapped at .026-.028. Seems a lot higher than the normal .015-.018 but I have yet to have one break and they make good power.

gap the second ring like normal .015-.018 in that range will be fine.
