Rev limiter on an A4

With my basically stock car....what should the rev limit be set at with a 4.10 gear in my A4? I don't want to blow the engine but my car keeps hitting the rev limiter when switching gears....thanks Jason

7000 and the fuel shut off is at 7200. Shift it where ya want it and the rev limit will catch any missed shifts.
Pay for it to be done one time and be done.

7000rpm won't blow the engine on an A4? I can only set it up to 6400 but I've got it set at 5700 at the moment....too low for my setup?

Re: Rev limiter on an A4

5886 for 1st gear and 5805 for the other gears is stock rev limiter.
If shifts are recalibrated correctly, it should shift at stock shift points, although *I* normally raise the 3-4 shift just a tiny bit so the car traps in 3rd in the 1/4.

I would set the rev limiter between 6000 and 6200.

7000 is only there to catch the RPM's if something goes wrong, that's all. Ya can set it whereever but if ya are going to mod later then pay for it to be done ONE time.
In my day ya didn't have rev limiters ya had your reaction to a missed shift and how quick ya could get out of it.And no automatics-- that wasn't racing with a slush-o-matic.

No 7000 ocasionally( once a year) won't bother it but ya ain't supposed to miss shifts. Get it programed to shift were ya want and leave it in "D".

Re: Rev limiter on an A4

I've got a question since we're on the topic of rev limiters. My car can shoot passed 6000 RPM when i slam on it, and once it reaches 6000 it usually is doin 55-60 then it shifts there into 2nd. Then it will get back up to 6000 again to shift. Well i noticed madwolf said the shift limits are at 5800 or about, why is my car going higher?

If you are basing it off of what your factory tach shows then you should be let in on a little secret...

*** The Factory Tach doesn't read accuratly ***

Mine reads about 400 RPM's high at the end of the RPM range...

Hook it up to an external tach and see!!!!!
Nobody can tell ya what YOUR tach is doing 'cause they aren't there and most read different numbers.

Re: Rev limiter on an A4

I have found that my Factory tach is off by 6.66%.. At idle the difference is real small, about 33 RPM's, but by the 6000 RPM range it reads about 400 RPM's off...
