Requirements to swap 4l60e for 700R4...

another member in the lounge told me this was possible... and that the 700r4 would bolt right in...

700r4's are MUCH cheaper... 1200 shipped 450hp capable from summit... whereas stock is 1700 from gm for a 4l60e...

1.what else has to be done to make this conversion possible?
computer stuff?

2.what would become of my "transmission perform" button?

3.would i loose power?

4.are there different gears ratios in the two?

5.good idea???.,.. or would you not recommend it? why?

4l60e is essentially an electronically controlled 700r4. If your goal is to put in something stouter, you'd be blowing $1200 IMO.

I'd get something along the lines of LT1 Dave's Level II 4l60e for $800.

You'd still have to drop your pocket book and get the 4l60e tranny, then send it to be rebuilt.

my goal is not to put something in thats stouter... but my only real option is to buy a whole new stock unit for 1700 right now...

so if i can get basically the same thing for cheaper... im all for it... and if its built for 450hp... then thats even better...

please answer my questions if you can...

if the 700r4 is not electronically controlled... then what is done with all the computer sutff when i have it put in?

any tricks or extra costs/problems that arise from this changeover?

4L60E is an electronically controlled 700R4...You wont get an improvement in power holding comparing two stock units.

Stick with your 4l60e. Physically they are the same tranny, but yours line pressure, shift points, etc. are controlled by the computer.

Just go to a boneyard and find a core 4l60e and send it to the lt1dave dude and get the level 2 rebuild incase you want to put some power to it later.
