replacing the lifters

I have a terrible tick that is coming from the drivers side of my motor. Tomorrow I am going to tackle the lifter swap.

Do yall have any tips or tricks that might help me along the way.

I already have the new lifters soaking in oil
I got the intake manifold gasket kit from felpro
A case of cold beer
fresh can of copenhagen

Chime in if i left anything off the list

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Tim

Re: replacing the lifters

are you sure its not an exhaust leak? It is nortorious for a ticking sound to be coming from the drivers side, even my camaro does its.
All you might really have is bad header gasket or where the header and y pipe meet gasket.

Re: replacing the lifters

Remove the Intake Manifold/TB/Fuel Rail assembly as a single piece. Saves time.

Set your valve lash with the manifold off, it lets you get a really good bead on things.

Nice thick bead of RTV at front/rear block rails. Don't want any leaks.

Will i need a special tool for the fuel lines?

My gaskets came with rtv got that one covered

yes you will need a tool to remove the fuel lines. If its a ticking lifter have you tried tightning that valve a little ?

Re: replacing the lifters

If I do not have the fuel line removal tool is there a way I can remove the lines without it?

Or do I have to pull the fuel rails and set them aside instead?

No problem. Just unclip the fuel lines from the retainer on the strut tower, take the rails off the manifold, and just twist them up and back and lay the rails on the windshield. No worries.

Most autoparts stores carry the fuel removal tool for little $$.
If that's not an option, you can take the rails off instead, like the previous poster said. If you do take the rails off, you may want to look at replacing the injector o-rings; depending on how many miles are on them.
