replacing head bolts possible

Without removing the heads, one bolt at a time?

When I rebuilt my engine (383) I did not realize that I needed new bolts. I am running the original bolts (60k) miles, and am not having any problems.

I have some new arp bolts, and want to replace the old ones. Should I just leave it alone, or can I replace them one at a time? I don't want to pull the head and get new gaskets etc.

Thanks!

The age old saying " if it aint broken why fix it" Save your bolts till you need to change the head gaskets and have a beer instead.

Good advice. Leave them alone as you may be inviting trouble.

Secondary reason; I was getting some oil leaking around the rocker studs (ported heads) and wanted to reseal the center head bolts.

You can do it, but I am not sure it is a good idea. I have never done it, so I am only speculating.

If you do replace them, make sure you drain your antifreeze first. Were the bolts you re-used torque-to-yield bolts?

I guess, they were the original 95 bolts.

I would actually change them... I'm pretty sure (but someone CMIIW) that the original head bolts are torque to yield bolts, which means they are no good now that they've been reused.
