Replacing Conv Tops
Replacing Conv Tops
Someone broke into my car Wensday night and cut the top... The Ins Company is making me put a used one on they found which is ok because it does look to be in better condition than my old one...
My question is how hard would it be to replace the top myself... This is coming as a complete assembly... It was taken out of another car...

I helped replace a friend's top on him 92 RS. Is wasn't that bad. Not a one person job at all. There is a lot of pulling and glueing involved. Get some good adhesive. No leaks on his so far. The only problem we had was that the weather stripping ripped in a few places while taking it off, they needed to be replaced.
I don't know if it's the same for the 4th gens, but it wasn't all that bad.

Dude, you need to scream at your insurance company. No way in hell would they be putting a used top on my car. I can understand some pieces like a door or a bumper cover, but not a conv. top. If you had coverage for vandalism, then they should be giving you a brand new top and having it installed.
