Replaced the Optispark, now I got no spark

Well I did the optispark and now I got no spark. I tested the wire coming off the optispark thats supposed to get like 5 volts -, and Im getting 12 -. I tried to unhook the coil before that and got nothing, but if its getting 12 volts to the negative on the coil that'll do it. All I did was take off the water pump, unplug the optispark and take it out ,unhook the negative on the battery(I forgot before), put the Opti back in , plug wires in, water pump, and the battery negative. Thats it. What did I do?

when I got no spark I believe one of the connectors in my wiring harness blew somehow, and had to be replaced. check the voltage in the four-wire-plug that goes into the plug above your coil (ignition module i think).

check the voltage there.

you mean you didn't start it up without the cooling system attached for a second just to ensure everything worked fine? man that sucks!

it's fine to start it with no water pump, just don't let it run. I read an article on how to install an opti a loooong time ago so when i did mine, i followed his advice and gave it a test-start to ensure it started.

the 2 wires on the ignition module that are supposed to get 12volt+ are getting it. The other wire that is supposed to get an A/C signal from computer on cranking isnt getting it. The wire on the distributor plug that it suppoed to be getting 5V- is getting 12v+. Im about to order a computer from pcmforless.com. I dont know what else to do.

I talked to Brian at pcmforless and he said some people are getting dead optisparks straight from GM. Is there anyway to test it straight outta the box? Maybe see if its dead first? before I install?

I don't think there's a way. Anyway you said that the wire that is suppose to get an A/C signal on cranking isn't getting it? Maybe that's your problem there.

If you haven't check this page under Opti and Spark Test.

http://csce.uark.edu/~jgbertr/rb/4th...html#opti_test

It sounds like it probably is a bad opti. I just replaced mine and it ended up being bad. Jason is sending me a new one, it should be here tomorrow.
