Replace one or all fuel injectors?
Re: Replace one or all fuel injectors?
Lol, I'm a premed student! I don't have tons of time lying around here folks. :P But I did do it in between classes today... Here's what I found:
Pulled clips on the passenger side and every one made a difference in the running as far as I could tell.
On the drivers' side, 3,5,7 seemed to make no difference except for 5, which is a bit ambiguous.
Two odd things:
1. In order to make the engine run normal again after pulling clips 1 and 4, I had to step on the gas a bit.... :-/
2. I climbed in the car, and there was no shake so I took it out on the street, and oh my gosh was there power. It seems that pulling the clips and replacing them made the misfire go away. WTF?! Now what the heck am I supposed to do?? So it appears to be a fuel issue, then? I mean, seriously, what the heck? Should I remove all my injectors and clean them??
One more thing: WOT the car runs amazing now (is it possible to have a misfire but smooth running car????). However, there is a light stall in power at 1200rpm consistently when giving it *light* gas.

Sounds like you may have dislodged some grime in those injector. I say that becuaser it doesn't seem likely at all that you'd have 3 bad injectors on the same side. I'd try running some techron additive through it and seeing if something changes. Change the fuel filter if you haven't already....
What plugs are you running? It is somewhat inconsistent to have no fuel to some cylinders and have plugs showing overly rich conditions.
Re: Replace one or all fuel injectors?
That's what I thought..... Dry, slightly black plugs and yet no fuel??? Then again, the plugs were all very old--just sayin'.
I am running brand new NGK TR55s as of last weekend along with MSD 8.5mm super conductor wires. I did wiggle each injector around a bit when I checked. I really want to make sure I get to the root of this problem though, will simply running an additive do this?
And again, why would the call stall at 1500rpms at some points but not others.. And more importantly to prevent damage to my car, can you have a misfire yet the car run perfectly smooth at idle and while driving?

If the car runs perfectly smooth while at idle or driving then you don't have a misfire....do you? I suspect you mean you have an intermittent misfire...and intermittent is another word for a 'biotch' in diagnosing a problem. Tell us again what you've done to the ignition..opti, etc.
Re: Replace one or all fuel injectors?
ok to me from what i am reading it seems that you still dont understand what pulling the injector clips tells you.
when you pull a clip and the engine does not change that just means that cylinder is dead. it does not mean you have a fuel issue there. you could have a fuel issue but it could also be spark. just because the wires and plugs are new does not mean it is not spark related. how many miles are on the new plugs and wires? try pulling the plugs on those dead cylinders and what do they look like? throw on a fuel pressure gauge and go for a spin where does it peak and where does it drop off. i am no mechanic but have put a lot of money and time into workin on my lt1 and the advice from this forum has been absolutely invaluable so i am just repeating a lot of what i have learned on here. from what you are saying on here you seem to be stuck on injector issues without ruling out easier things first. you could also take your coil and icm into the autoparts store and have them tested both cool and after you heat them up with a hairdryer or the like. while you are there you could also have your bettery and alternator checked out. those arent as likely but still could cause issues.
good luck with the premed stuff but ya need to allocate a chunk of time to really dive in it seems, it is possible even with a full premed load, things should be quieting down there before the upcoming but short thanksgiving break before the prefinal rush is on.

Re: Replace one or all fuel injectors?
I know exactly what pulling an injector clip tells me.....it tells me what cylinder is dead. HOWEVER, because messing with the injector clips and moving the injectors around fixed the misfire, I MUST assume it is fuel related. However, thank you for your concern on my incompetency. :P Just kidding man...
Plugs and wires were just changed. Nothing done to opti, coil was replaced with an MSD about a year ago. The shake in the engine before was constant, not intermittent. Some days it would, some days it wouldn't, but on any given drive it would ALWAYS shake or ALWAYS NOT shake. The stall and shake is now gone, too... Thanks for the info hunter, I'll run some stuff and then see if the injectors need to be cleaned if drivability improves.
