Question Replace head bolts??

Hey all I am getting ready to swap cams and take the heads off and port them and I have read from doing a search that I don't need to replace the head bolts if it's a 95 or has 3 tick marks on the bolts is this true? I have a 95z

Thanks
Troy

Re: Replace head bolts??

just replace them with new head bolts. The bolts can streatch out over the years when they are on an engine from the heat that is generated and cooling down. Just replace them its better to be safe than sorry. A small price to pay to make sure all that hard work itsn't going to have to be repeated.

All bolts stretch. Important ones like those, you need to not think about it and just replace them.

Im with them, their only 12 bucks at O'reilly's, why take a chance when $12 will save you a lot of time and money.

Re: Replace head bolts??

For that price they should be replaced. According to the manual, however, only 96 & 97 LT1s received torque to yield bolts, so 93-95s can be reused, later years must be discarded once removed. I would replace them either way.
