removing throttle body for teardown and cleaning

Im replacing all gaskets, new IAC, new billet throttle body plate, and Im going to polish the outside too. I want to soak the whole thing in acetone to get every last bit of grime off. Is it a bad idea to saok it in acetone or should I use some other solvent to clean it with. I want to use something stronger that throttle body cleaner. And yes I plan on re-oiling the shaft.

i believe someone else on here does use acetone to clean their throttle body. i remember reading it before. you may want to make sure before you do it though because that acetone is strong. well, i know it works wonders in organic lab.

Thats why I want to use it. I have some sealant on there I used to rig a cracked gasket so Im hoping the acetone will help to dissolve that too.

Acetone is pretty strong stuff, don't know what that would do to it. I cleaned mine up when I had the manifold off, I just used a can of carb cleaner and a toothbrush over the whole thing. It cleaned it up pretty well, got most of the black stuff off the inside too. I then used a wire brush and the dremel with a brush to clean it up a little more, here is how it came out.

brake cleaner should be strong enough to remove anything from the surface of the tb. i myself wouldnt use anything as harsh as acetone if i could use another solvent
