removing hub, quick question

removing hub, quick question

In process of removing hub to change front seal, do I need to drain the oil before I do this. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I think I need to but wanted to make sure before I spent the time doing it.

i dont think so. i am in the middle of a project, and i removed the timing cover w/o draining the oil, not a drop...

Oh well went ahead and drained it anyway. Started to see oil seep through a bit when the hub was almost out, almost 3k since last oil change anyway.
