Removing hardlines from fuel rail?

I've been looking at this diagram for a while, but still can't figure it out. Is there a tool you can use to pull the hardlines out of the fuel rails, or do they need to be forced out?

TIA.

Fuel line disconnect tool. $5-10 at your local parts store

If you're talking about removing the hard lines from the end of the fuel rail, they have to be cut out, then you're looking at TIG welding some kind of fitting on, like an AN fitting for instance. Decent article about it in the Fall 2004 issue of Camaro Performance.

So the actual rail has to be cut? And yes, I'll be welding on some -AN fittings. Thanks.

Basically you cut the line as close to the end of the rail as possible. Then you need to do a little drilling and milling on the end of the rail to get it ready for welding. Are you going to a parallel system, or just want the look and convenience of braided lines?

The only one that's trouble is #8 on your picture, the one on the passenger rear. The end of the rail is actually crimped down over the slip fitting to hold it in. All the others have reasonable bolts holding them in.

OK, so it does need some forcing. I the only reason I'm doing it is for space reasons, as you can see here:

http://community.webshots.com/user/v8beast

Off the bottle, the motor will come nowhere close to exceeding the capacity of the stock fuel rails, so it kinda sucks to have to do this. However, I had to cut the support brackets holding the hardlines steady to make room for the #7 fogger nozzle, and the way they now swivel in the rails just irks me.

Thanks for the tips.

About three issues ago, GM High Tech Performance showed modding the fuel rails like you are talking about. I still have the issue (I have about all of them the past about 8 years). If you would like, I can try and scan the article and email it to you.

Just wanted to be sure you saw this in my one post.

"Decent article about it in the Fall 2004 issue of Camaro Performance"

Might even be a copy of the article that n2oblkz is talking about, but the point is that this magazine is on the stands now.

Jim S. '95 Z28,
I have the article scanned and I am trying to send it. I am having server problems for some reason and it has not gone thru yet. I will keep trying, I have not forgotten about you.

Re: Removing hardlines from fuel rail?

Great, I was just wondering if you had got them. I have bought a spare fuel rail to mod also. I have got the new style Aeromotive FPR and I am going to retain it and on the passenger side, have a -10AN fitting welded in. I already have converted my fuel lines to braided -6an so I will just use a reducer to adapt the line on the passenger side. This way, if I ever need to run a larger fuel system, it will be a breeeze. Good luck.
