????removing Egr And Air Any Pointers Or Words Of Caution???

Im removing my egr and air and just needed to know if there was anything else to it than just blocking off the egr with the block off plates and removing the air system and blocking off the air tubes. Thanks for all your help once again!!!!!

I think since yours is a 97, w/ odb2, it will throw codes, i could be wrong though.

You can pretty well count on it.

Woo-Hoo! I'm happy I have OBD1. No rear O2s to mess with with header/ORP install, either

Sorry, didn't realize OBD2 would be different.

I've got a 97 and after I took mine off, it took about 3 days to throw a code. No negative performance issues though. Just make sure to cap the vacuume line on the driver's side rear of the intake that went to the EGR.

No positive ones either. Removal of either of these does not enhance performance. Lack of EGR can cause a performance degradation (from knock retard) if you get detonation from excessive combustion temperatures.

Good point, Shoebox. I buggered up the EGR pipe on my header install and it was easier/quicker/cheaper to block it off than to wait to get a new EGR pipe. The air pump was also disconnected at this time (at headers) and in the way while doing plug wires (well, sorta ), so I just yanked it and figured if I had probs/codes, I'd just put it back.

Wouldnt the EGR raise combustion temperatures I always thought it added the hot gasses to the intake which would make the temperatures hotter.

thats kinda the way I looked at it too but no. What happens is the spent exhaust gasses take up room in the combustion chamber. Space that would otherwise be taken up by air/fuel. since the exhaust gasses wont burn, less heat is pruduced.

less air to burn? wouldn't that in itself cause a degredation of performance'?

egr only opens in certain cruise conditions. not idle or wot. If you open the valve all the way by hand while at idle, car dies. open it a little runs ****ty.

Re: ????removing Egr And Air Any Pointers Or Words Of Caution???

Sometimes (vortech 4.3s in particular) a piece of carbon gets loose and gets wedged in the egr valve. causing it to stick open and run bad.
