AFAIK, there are no performance benefits. Some people do it, because they buy headers that have no provisions for the feed pipe and other people do it because they want to and still others because it "cleans up" the engine compartment (not that it does IMO).

I think some of the rationale is that the LT4 did not come with an EGR and it had more horsepower (therefore people think "no EGR-more horsepower"). However, it did not require the EGR for emissions because of the different cam it had.

I think that hit the nail on the head. Since the "LT4" cam had more overlap than standard "LT1" cams, GM Powertrain deemed EGR redundant and unnecessary. If you run an aftermarket cam, odds are you will have enough overlap to accomplish the same thing.

Another thing is that it only operates in part throttle situations anyway, so there is no need to worry about any power loss when you need it most (WOT).

when you block the EGR the motor wil get 5-10 degrees hotter at least thats what it did on mine, might get 1-3 more hp because thats less stress on the motor from recycling the air, and fast it gets out of the motor. this is all that i have realized on mine, might be different on the rest of your cars.

I blocked mine until just recently when I found that the heat was being tranmitted to the aluminum intake through the block off plate. Thus causing a manifold leak which was a pain in the butt to change. I you block it you need to block it at the exhaust pipe not the manifold to reduce the heat. But like shoebox said it really doesn't help you to block it in the first place.

I want to do it only to make the engine bay a little less crowded, and because it is ugly and wierd looking. I would also like to know what to do about the AIR pump. Can you just block off the hose that goes to the intake elbow? And what about the wires on it?

I have deleted both AIR and EGR. The EGR has already been explained so I wont say anything about that. For the AIR pump, remove the 3 bolts holding it to the bracket, block the hole in the air box/CAI with tape or 5/8" vacuum cap. Thats all there is to it and enjoy your new SES light and room your freed up.

But what about the wires? Did you just unhook them from the pump and leave them plugged in?
