Removed oil pan, and what do I see? Four Bolt Mains??!!

So, I went to change my oil pan gasket today (and I thought it would be good to remove 100,000 miles of sludge in the pan) and I see that my LT1 has 4-bolt mains! I KNOW this is the original engine in the car, and it was never apart or rebuilt.

I heard stories about this kind of thing... What gives?

Its possible that the engine was replaced by the dealer under wrranty or something, check the VIN on the Block to be completely sure.

Supposedly, they got 4 bolt mains if replaced under warrenty. If true, mine should have 4 bolt mains.

Mine was replaced due to low oil pressure and engine knock.

What month was your car built? I have heard of a few early '93s getting 4bolts also.

Your car is held together with black RTV now. I bet they wont replace it for that.

I had a new engine put in about 4 years ago, under warrenty. A piston broke ( I dont know how that happens but thats what the GM dealership told me) at about 50,000 miles and got a brand new GM 4 bolt main short block LT1!!!!!!!
