Remove PS Pump/Pulley to change Water Pump?

Do I have to remove the power steering pump/pulley to change the water pump? I noticed the center bolt on the passenger side looks like its behind the pulley.

No, you don't have to. Use a swivel head extension or something similar and you should be good to go.

sweet, I can't find my Hanes Manual so I did a search and didn't find anything. But the dealer ship I took it to to tell me EXACTLY what was wrong with the car wanted to charge me almost $1400 for the Pump, New Opti, Coolant, and a Belt. Explative Deleted, Explative Deleted, Explative Deleted.

When you go to re-install the pump, put that bolt in the hole in the water pump before you set the pump on the block. That way the pulley won't block access to putting it in.

I can't remember, but if there are holes in the pulley, you can access the PS bolts through them.

I just got that bolt out. Are there 5 or 6 bolts on the WP? How do I not Fry my opti-spark when I remove the pump?

6 bolts on the water pump. You drain the coolant to keep it off the opti.

First of all, how old is the opti? If it's original, I would strongly recommend swapping in a new opti while the pump is off.

Yea, its a 96 with less than 90k miles, I just dont have the money right now to do the MSD billet opti like i would like to. Had I had this problem 2 weeks ago, I wouldn't have ordered the new valvetrain and been able to do the billet. The dealership this morning wanted to charge me 700 for a DELCO REPLACEMENT. I was like pphhhhhhssssssffff.

You don't NEED to change the opti. If it's running fine, just wait 'till it fails. People have way more miles on their opti's without issues.

True, it was just a suggestion.
I've seen some last 150k+ and some less than 100k.
