Question Remove Opti to install front seal????

Hey all!

We are getting ready to replace the front timing seal on our 94Z. I would love a little info before we got started. We have the special tool and an installer for the process.

What I want to know is, is there an install page on this? Haynes recommends
removing the Opti AND waterpump. I see that as an annoyance, and not needed. Or am I wrong???

Is this a simple job, or is this going to take some time? Will we be able to get to everything w/ the radiator in place? Is there anything special we need to know, or any cautions? There has always been surprises w/ an LT1.

We also bought a Repair sleeve for the crankshaft. I was told it was good to install one of those along w/ a new seal.....what do yall think?

Anyway, thanks!

Iam guessing that you are talking about replacing the front crank seal on the timing cover, if thats the case remove belt, remove balancer, remove hub, remove seal, install new seal ( I would put some grease on inner part of seal ) install hub, balancer, and belt. Doubt you will need a sleeve on crank unless the old seal cut a bad slot into it.

You make that sound so easy!!

I hope it is that simple. That is what I was thinking, I don't see why the opti, etc. would have to be removed. I hope the rad. isn't in the way!

It's a little tricky your first time, just do a search and you'll find out how to take it off. Some just have better luck with theirs than others.

If you have the correct tools, it won't be a problem.

Just rent the three claw puller from Autozone and if you have an Air/Electric Impact it will come right off. Will be a lot harder with a ratchet but you will get it.

We have the puller from Snap On, and the installer. So I hope we don't run into a problem, like the radiator being in the way!

And we have an impact, thanks for yalls replies
