Thumbs down Remember my other thread? Now I KNOW my car is slow!!

Ok, some of you may have seen my other thread about me being disappointed with my times. I ran a 13.55 @103.69. Fast forward to my runs last night- let me list my mods first.......

1995 Z/28 auto, 3.23 gears.
K&N CAI, 1LE elbow, TB airfoil, SLP 1 3/4 headers, Off road Ypipe, Flowmaster Force II catback, 1LE driveshaft, 2200rpm Stall converter, B&M trans cooler, all free mods-runs were made on drag radials.

Let's concentrate on 1/8 mile times. On my 1/4 13.55 run I ran a 8.70 in the 1/8. I did that with a 2.0 short time, so I went last night to the local 1/8 mile track hoping to cut my short time down to a 1.8-1.9 and run 8.5x. I was real disapointed.

First run, stalled the car to 1800, light goes and I mash the gas to the floor, no spin cut a 2.0 short time and ran a 9.0x WTF!!!!!!!!

Next run I stall it up some more, cut another 2.0x and ran a 8.91. Let me go ahead and say there was a 93 Z/28 auto there, 3.23 gears and his only mod was a K&N CAI on street tires, he was running 9.1.

So with all my mods, and on drag radials I only ran .2 faster than a basically stock 93. Not only that, on street tires(spinning all over the place) and stock torque converter I ran a 9.0!!!

I am about sick and tired of this damn car. The problem has to be in my tranny somewhere, the car is a dog out of the hole. I'm about ready to swap a six speed in, because I can sure as hell drive it better than that. I can nail it from a stop on the street and the tires chirp and that's all. 2.0s with drag radials and 2200 stall is just plain poor.

Somebody PLEASE help me out here, I'm really starting to hate this car. It should run sooooo much better. Obviously it's making power to run a 13.5(since it's so poor in the 1/8) I'm ready to put the stock stall back in, or go with a B&M converter, they seem reasonable.

Can you describe how the car is such a dog off the line? Does is just rev slow? Tranny slip? Engine sputter?

My times are compromised also by those symptoms...mine are more when my car shifts from 1st to 2nd it has to almost catch up with itself and then continue accelerating. When the car shifts at 40 it shoots to 50 in no time, but then it acts up. Do you have that symptom? If so or not how do you combat it? Thanks.

Well it cuts consisten 2.0X's. Before the converter and drag radials I was cutting 2.1X on street tires, spinning all over the place. But now the car just cannot get lower than a 2.0X. It's like it doesn't have enough power to pull itself out of the hole. I get the feeling that used torque converter that I bought is acting up.

Here's a vid of me launching at the 1/4 track if this helps-

I let my brother drive the last run of the night....... He came off idle and nailed it to the floor, it ran a 9.13.

I honestly think that TC is messed up. I can't shell out the money for a PI or something like that. Are the B&M converters any good?

most of the guys i know run 3000-4400 stalls (my friend with a 3200 vig was pulling 1.5x 60's). something is not right with your stall or tranny. My dad was pulling 2.0's in his 94 vert vette a4 with 273's. somthing doesn't add up.

Yup, I guess that's what I get trying to be a cheap bastard on buying a torque converter. Actually I would bet that if I put my stock one back in I'd run faster

It's a Daaco, they are located about 50 miles from me. The guy who had it before me was running 7.80s in the 1/8 on it on the spray. He said he ran 8.40s on motor with a bunch of bolt ons........ He's friends with the people I know that race so he has no reason to lie.

I guess my options at this point are 1) take it out and send it back to Daaco to have it reworked or 2) just buy another TC somewhere- new but reasonably priced.

My car has very similar mods to yours except I still have stock stall. I can cut consistent 1.8 sixty on street tires. My method is to stall it up and let off the brake and give it just enough gas to get moving than one moving I lay into the gas. I used to have a corvette and using the same method sixty were the same. By the way last time I was at a track I ran a 8.60 and my car had some ignition issues that have sense been fixed.

Sounds like a tranny problem. It could be the torque converter. I have a SLP converter, & love it.

I would have to recommend a higher stall. I have a Midwest converter 3000 2.5 str and it seems to work well for me other than the fact that my rear is out right now. I haven't been able to get a good launch with 1 wheel peel.

$480 shipped to your door I think

John, I don't know if you remember me, but a buddy and I came down and picked up a drive shaft from you.. He was gonna buy the wheels but ended up selling his car...

I think you have a tranny issue. I watched the video and it seems like you launched REALLY easy off the line.

My 96 Formula with 160* thermostat, TB Bypass, SLP CAI and TB airfoil with 2.73's and an A4 has done a best of 2.1x 60' times with a 9.35 1/8 on street tires with my amp rack in the car (subs out).

couple things to think about >>

You never posted what your 60's were before, but there are some things to think about:

How big are you? If you're a big guy your car will not come out as good as a smaller guy driving the car.

What altitude are you running at? Seems alot of the guys posting are from coastal areas which mean they're near sea level. If you're up in the mountains at higher altitude, your car will run slower.

Are your tires standard or are they larger slick type tires? If they're larger diameter then your car won't come out as good.

13.5 with just bolt ons is not bad. 103-104MPH in the 1/4 is about where your car should be for the mods you have.

Just some thoughts....
