Reliablity

ls1 or lt1, which car would u see last longer?

after many troubles w/ my lt1 (replaced many items) im pondering switching my formula to a ls1 ws6 m6... i want to upgrade my grill to ws6 and swap to a t56, but im wondering if i should give up my baby and just buy a ws6?

ive got 93k on the dash and im about ready to do the radiator hoses, i replaced the starter, alternator, wires, plugs, cat, ignition switch battery, intake elbow, headlamps, tail lights, all 4 brakes... in about a 5 month time altho im educating my self on cars quickly w/o damaging my car too much

and not to long i plan to upgrade most of the valvetrain and heads/cam, got headers sitting by my computer... and basically have a mostly new vehicle...

im just saying i guess this lt1 has been quite a hassle for me but i love my baby to death, ive heard ls1's arent very fun to drive

Sounds like you've been doing basic maintenance. I wouldn't trade that car in unless you get a screamin deal on an LS1.

There both going to have probs now and then. I would stay with the LT1 since parts are cheaper to replace on them.

Cool

Most everything you have replaced are normal wear out items that will go bad sooner or later. All of them comming up in a 5 month period sucks, but thats the nature of the beast.

Unless you pay top dollar the LS1 you get may have just as many miles (and as many problems) as your car. Also, many of the early LS1 cars suffered from excessive oil burning. Unless you are just looking for an excuse to buy a newer car, keep yours. Things go bad, we replace them. Its part of owning a car.

I drove a 99 LS1 Camaro. I was an awsome car. But I like torque, and the LT1 is stronger on the bottom end. Also, my 94 will be faster after the head/cam swap for a whole lot less money.

OH, One more thing. NO CAR PAYMENT!

that is a funn word. I usually dont associate it with my car.

Yes a ls1, IMO, is more reliable, but lt1's are fun to drive. My friend put 10K miles on his 98 z, which had 54k on it when he bought it. Today at 64K (put 10K on in seven months) and hasnt had one problem. Just the basic stuff, brakes and a batt.

In two years i have put 10K on my car (now at 57K) and i hesitate taking it more than 20 miles from home. I does too much crap like idle surging (which no one can figure out), Occasional dead spot at 2K rpm, had to get a new starter, new AC comp, new IAC, new EGR vavle (at 40K? wth), intake leak fix to come back in 1.5k, low oil pressure at 4k+ rpm, and other crap i cant recall. No codes on my scanner.

But i still want to keep it, fun to drive.

My lt1 has 138k on it runs good. I replaced the opti at 130k but it was still running, just stumbled a bit. Keep your car pay off bills, wiat till 2000 ls1 is cheaper or so.

heh im not afraid its only left me stranded once, and that was a dead starter i just took it to yosemite national park a 350 mile drive w/ a bad alternator and it made it home w/ plenty of power and only had to fill up twice... tested my gas mileage and was pleasently pleased w/ 24 mpg... (much better then 12 when originally puchaced the car)

i can say 2 things, i am extremely happy w/ my first car and the knowledge of cars i have received from u guys and from working on the car, my wallet just is stretched tight every month

i can say this is the best education a guy can get, hands on and sometimes feet too damn stering column...

i'll tell u i bough my car in september, put 2000 down, put 700$ in tuneup type materials 350$ a month = 2100 so far a new starter 280, alternator 115, plugs 65, wires 60, headers 210, hoses 100, brakes 400, tires 200, catlatic converter 100... thats a total of $6330 and i still owe $4100 over then next 12 months... in about 6 months ive had it

hrmm thats where all my money went never added it up

LS1s are perfect, they never break and no lt1 can ever out run an ls1. heres proof

Nice. Hope the LS1/LS6 in my future Vette holds up as good as my LT1 has.

the gen 3 stock motors hold up great until you try to get some power out of them. thats when you have to start spending $$$. its the nature of the beast i guess. the f-bodys arent really as durable as the fox body mustangs, but they drive a hell of a lot better. if you want cheap and dependable, its hard to beat a 5 liter.

I bought my car three years ago with 65k on her and now she has 110k. To date I have only had one problem and that is my battery went out on me one time. These cars are very dependable as long as you take care of them.
