reliable

I just recently joined this forum. I am trying to find out how reliable camaros are. Most I have seen in my price range are at 100 thousand miles or over. I am still in highschool, so I do not drive far everyday. The vehicle i have now is terrible on gas and has some engine probs. How is the gas mileage on camaros?

Thanks!

gas mileage wise, hope your looking for a V6, im getting about 13.6 now, but i need to get o2 extensions and new sensors, now for reliable, the more mods you do and the more you beat on it, there goes your reliability, and most f-bodies are beat on, especially with that many miles, its hard to find one in good condition, im still in high school, got my car for 6800 and already put 1800 in it and ive only had it for about 2 months.

whats up man and welcome.
I bought my Z junior year of High School. 99,000 miles for 6500$ stock. 2 years later im working on 124K now and seems just fine. These cars are not really that bad on gas, however soooooooring gas prices can take a nice chunk of change out of your pocket. There are some issues with the LT1 like, fuel pumps, optispark...etc do some readings on the board. What kind of car do you have now? Overall, Camaros/Firebirds with LT1's are reliable cars if well maintained. Friends of mine have bought V6 Camaros, and seem to be nothing but trouble for them mechanicly, and Race wise... plus gas milage is prob about the same in my opinion V6 vs a V8

Check out my link in my signature to check out my car. Once you start modding the car....you see no end to it...! you can do just about anything to the motor, interior, exterior to satisfy your modding needs!!!
Have fun and be safe.
Let us know what your outcome is.....

Right now I have a '91 Toyota 4Runner. They have a great reputation for being reliable. But sometimes when i drive over 50 miles on the highway/interstate it will act up when I go to start it again after stopping somewhere. It is also sooo slow.

If I get a camaro, I do not really have much interest in racing or going really fast. I just want a car that looks good and has some pick up. I like to drive my dads '95 4 cylinder honda just because it has more acceleration than my truck...that is pretty pathetic haha

I am kind of confused about what a LT1 is and F body. What are they exactly?

f-body is the name of the platform i guess of our cars, camaros and trans-ams, the lt1 is the v8 motor in the z28's and ss camaros and trans-ams from 93-97, 98+ have ls1 motors, if you just want looks get like a 98 v6 i think they look very nice and you can get them in very good condition and their faster than that 4 banger honda

If you get a car in good working condition, and you don't beat on it when you own it, it will last you a very very long time.
With that said, like any used car it's always a risk buying someone elses problems Just take care of the regular maintenance and it should do fine. Parts for it can get expensive but again most of the little things on the car that need fixin aren't that big of a deal to replace.

"I promise, I won't do anything to this car but change the oil and drive it."

Heads, cam, and a supercharger later...

And I'm building a turbocharged stroker for the car.
