In all seriousness, you gained some ponies and it barely cost you anything. No harm in that.

HAHA..Good stuff. I'd be curious to see how your redneck setup dyno'd against the dyno tested platinum stuff most people have.

maybe you can come up with a means of a redneck dyno too??

I think it's cool. If I was on a shoestring budget I'd do it. I've hacked the airbox like that on 6 or 7 cars in the past. It's certainly not as good as an aftermarket kit since it retains the stock restriction at the radiator shroud, but it's always good for a few ponies.

Good job!

Re: Redneck exhaust/intake

Exhaust is fine, intake done this way will suffer from stock intake assembly, which is pretty restrictive bottleneck.

Re: Redneck exhaust/intake

You guys realize he is still running his stock air intake piping so he's not really gaining much at all with that as for the exhaust i would of just installed a cut out.

Plus, if the import guys had "shown me how to do it" there'd be Japanese all over my car and a huge 4-foot wing on the back with a beach towel thrown over it. I work with two "Ricer" guys, and thier cars are nice - but too quiet, too small, and the vinyl all over them looks like a Japanese take-away restaurant menu. Just watch out for the '88 CRX with "ALLMOTR" on the license plate. That guy turned 12s at the track in Fallon! Unreal. It's like hopping up your lawnmower or edger!

That's the best thing I have read in a LOOOOOONG time!!

I hope hope you don't care what people think........that being said I think you did a very good job.

Re: Redneck exhaust/intake

Cutting the airbox open won't gain any power, but it will sound better.

The restriction is not in the airbox. The restriction is in the ducting where it narrows down to fit past the ABS module. If you are still running the factory ducting, you still suffer the restriction.

A good quality CAI is worth the money.

Re: Redneck exhaust/intake

For the intake you could just peice together some wide @ss pvc piping and actually even run the piping down to where a CAI sits and pull off the "front facia" (i think thats what its called), put a filter down there and it'd be prolly just as good as a intake

Re: Redneck exhaust/intake

Excellent!

It's all about doing what you can with what you have. I'm right there with ya man. Can't afford/don't want to pay for a name... MAKE YOUR OWN! I have a similar "intake", although mine is the K&N cone on the end of the stock intake... and a 1LE elbow... getting my own 3.5" tube in place of that stock box. As for intakes, I mean seriously, I just can't justify 200+ for a tube THAT small... with NO other connections on either end. Some of the other vehicles with tons of bends and 6 hoses connected to it sure.. but ours???

Exhaust... sadly this is a sore subject with me. I LOVE the way my muffler replacement only job sounds... and know that it's not much for the power gain department. But I ALSO know that when I get the super high flow wamadyne system I want, I won't like the sound as much. DOH!

GOOD ON YA!

Re: Redneck exhaust/intake

Performance wise, the open intake box is slightly less restrictive than the stock air box, but there's a restriction in just the plastic elbow as it corners the radiator, and it's breathing hot air from the engine compartment. Still, I temporarily put a K&N conical filter right there once and the car seemed a little different. The exhaust bend doesn't look mandrel bent and looks like it has a large restriction where the bend is and the ID is reduced.
