Recommended RPM for stock bottom end

Ok, I have to get a tune still and Im still on stock shift points right now. I have a 46,xxx mile motor.. with the 306 cam. Im really worried about breaking something..since the car was just broke for 11months and Its my daily driver

Im wondering if I can shift at 6500rpm and be safe..or if 6300rpm is a better choice? Will the engine even hold up for very long shifting that high??

Thanks in advance.

I wouldnt go much over six with it all stock.

I'd go with the 6300 or even 6000 if you want it to last the longest. Above that it could be hit or miss depending on your oiling systems health.

Thanks for the reply.... 6300 would be alright?? or would that be a considerable problem vs 6K.

Frequently hit 6300? or is that just occasionally.. Ideally I would like to see at least that... Ive seen guys spinning that high on their post..however after reading a year old thread about it..I usually notice a new setup in their SIG.. and that bothers me.

I have 306 with a 355 stock crank and rods. I spin to 6400 or 6500 rev limiter set at 6800. No problems, also have new oiling system. 306 makes its power up high.

Re: Recommended RPM for stock bottom end

As long as your oiling system is up to the task , a few hundred RPM over 6 will be fine. The real killer could be detonation, that is what usually beats a bearing out,

Well I have a new oil system..but do you guys recommend a high volume pump? Ill stick to low rpms for now... (around 6K) Hmmm.. what exactly causes the detonation?

I'm shifting @ 6300 with a comp cam 224/230 and using nitrous with a stock bottom end. You won't be making peak power until atleast 63-6500. That cam likes 6500. why put that cam in if your not going to use it. Just my 2cents.

No on the HV pump, waste of time and money.

The XE cams are designed for 5800 rpm according to comp cams.

Re: Recommended RPM for stock bottom end

Thanks for the HV pump info.. I do think I need a new pan here eventually (has a jack mark on the bottom of it...doesnt appear to be damaged much..but I wont risk it and its getting changed out.

It doesnt look like I need to be revving past 6K really... if that powerband info is correct.. hmmm...
