Recommendations for SFI Internal Balance Flywheel, Please

I'm having a hard time finding a zero-balanced steel flywheel for the LT1. What are you guys running? I do not want an aluminum/ultralight version, slightly lighter is fine though. Have Centerforce DF clutch.

Is a unique flywheel required for LT1? Or will any zero-balance 153T SB one-piece rear main flywheel work? There are some very reasonably priced SB parts out there.

I checked the vendors first, but none seem to list internal balance versions on their sites.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thumbs up

Yes, due to the "pull type" hydralic clutch used in the LT1 F-Bodies you need a somewhat "unique"........ deeply recessed flywheel.

You're cheapest option right now is to go to : www.slponline.com and click on their "clearence" icon and pick up their lightweight (12 lb billet steel vs the OEM 19 lb cast iron) flywheel, (for $179.95 + S/H), and have it neutrally balanced for another, what, maybe an additional $50?

For somewhere around $250 bucks total....you'll have what you need.

Hmm, went to order the SLP flywheel today, and noticed they do not list it as SFI certified. I'll have to call and ask, but I definately want an SFI piece. Any other suggestions for a decent priced SFI steel flywheel?

A bit of new info. Since posting this, I have found that SPEC has a steel SFI flywheel, but it is 25 lbs, thus 5 lbs heavier than stock. About $270, either link below. I think they also have an 'SB to T56 Conversion' flywheel that would be zero balanced and thus the only potential 'drop-in' application. But after reading all the vibration horror stories, I'd pay to get it balanced anyway, so it's a littly pricey in the end.

Centerforce has one, too, but it's a whopping 29 lbs and $600!! No way.

There are a couple of aluminum ones that are SFI, too, but pretty expensive. The SLP is just as light as the aluminum ones , and that is currently my first choice. Even though it may not be SFI certified, at least it is billet steel so I THINK it would be much more frag resistant than stock cast. It also does not seem to have the preferred surface finish, with radial arcs in two directions from the center out. Oh well....

I'd love to find one that's only a few lbs lighter than stock, but now I'm getting picky.

Follow up:

I spoke with SLP today and their FW is NOT SFI certified, nor made with SFI-rated materials. I bought it anyway. Great deal IMO. Guy said to expect it in 3 days (to MI).
