Re: rebuilt advice and tips?

You can't do what you propose on the budget you have.

A cam swap is $1000 pretty quickly. Good rockers/pushrods and a cast off the shelf cam, a set of new rocker studs and guideplates and your budget is half gone easily and that is without buying really good stuff just middle of the road and that is no gaskets or fluids.

"rebuilding" the engine can cost your budget reusing most of the stock stuff.

Right off the bat drop the "buying ported intake" idea. While it is off you can open up the bores for a larger TB with a dremel tool or die grinder, I would discourage any more "porting" that that with as cast heads, have it ported when the heads are ported as they should be a matched set.

Delay the TB purchase, you can bolt the stock one back over the enlarged bores in the manifold.

What repairs does the engine need?
