Rebuilding your LT1 Specs.. Need a list "possible sticky"
There are alot of people always asking "what do I need for a rebuild"
Is there a way that we can make a sticky with a list of stuff. At that point people could build there LT1 and LS1 from there choosing the type of parts they want.
Example:
Block that is cleaned up or bored, and balanced
Rods
pistons
bearings
lifters
While you are in the engine
Cam
oil pump
timing chain
opti
rockers
pushrods
heads
thinner gaskets
Other things usually to hard to get to
headers
new K member
Motor mounts
paint the block
what else are we missing. What would be a good idea.

I would like to see typical buildups with average prices. For example a dirt cheap 355 rebuild reusing parts. And an all out forged 383. Maybe with users giving their own combos / hp / tq / times / money spent

Re: Rebuilding your LT1 Specs.. Need a list "possible sticky"
I built a pretty cheap 355 LT1.....
-Block with a stock crank, stock rods, stock cam, and oversize pistions-$900 on Ebay.
-Comp Cams XE 224/230- $250
-Comp Cams Beehive Springs-$200
-Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel-$400
-Pacesetter Shorties (wouldnt recommend)-$300
-Meziere Electric Water Pump-$200
Total-$2250.00
I probably could have got better for around the same price, but I am happy with it. I dont know the power..yet. As soon as I find out a place in Dallas to dyno, I am going to get it done.

Well I am currently having an engine built so I can tell you what I am doing. I am re-using the stock crank(polished $35), Scat 6" I beams($260), Mahle Flat top pistons($555). I am getting the block Hot tanked, magged, bored, honed,(forgot how much), ARP main studs($40), Block ) decked($125), Rotating assembly balanced($175), Shortblock assembled($285), Fel-Pro 1074's($70), LE2 Heads($$$), BRE custom cam($310), Cloyes Hex-A-Just($130), Bronze oil pump drive($40), ARP oil pump driveshaft($14), Canton Oil pan($275?), M55HV pump($25), Comp Cams Pro-Mag 1.6RR's ($245), Comp Cams Hi-Tech pushrods($130), Mono-Blade($550), Racetronix 37lbs injectors($280), Meziere WP($200), I am sure there is various little stuff that I have failed to mention..or stuff I already had before the build. Expectations....hmm, I would be happy from 400-420rwhp.

This is getting off the point. Nobody cares how much a rebuild costs because you can always find something cheaper or more expensive. If you have a list of what NEEDS TO BE DONE, and what can be done, then you can price it out yourself and not be lazy. I would never take 3-5 hours pulling a motor out and put crap back in.. I would get new stuff,, forged important stuff, and stuff designed to make it faster than it was. Other people wouldnt or cant. See what im getting at.

Then why have this thread? What you need is your factory motor and to leave it alone. What we want varies by a lot. You don't need lifters for an engine rebuild.

Re: Rebuilding your LT1 Specs.. Need a list "possible sticky"
OK. No sticky then. I wasnt sure if I did list everything. If someone is building a whole bottom end then would all need the same things... I didnt say JE Forged Pistons, I said pistons. You would need roughly the same stuff. Thats all I wanted to know. I think it would be a good idea, might even remove a lot of posts about the same thing over and over again. Not responding meanly to you 89385formula. Im just answering your question.
I think that it would be good to have a "full" buildup list of general parts that you would need. And another connected list of things that you would do while you either have the motor and cradle out or just the motor out.

Unless we all go to the machine shop, you're are going to get different prices. Granted we can get an idea of what should cost for services. My rebuild is costing twice as much as expected, and 4 times as longer then planned. When I am done my LT-1 is going to be 350 cubes again.

LT4 hotcam$218(summit)
LT4 spring $35(sdpc2000)
new roller lifters $95 shipped(ebay)
Machine work including: fitting piston pins, installing rings, boring, block deck resurface, head resurface, installed cam bearings, block cleaned, heads bead blasted, crank polish:$620
scorpion roller rockers$264 shipped(www.cdpautomachine.com)
random sensors and water pump driveshaft seal i ripped$75
