It really isnt a matter of time when you need to rebuild. It is more the matter of the condition of the engine. If the car has been maintaned well then there should be no reason for a rebuild. Mine had 154k miles on it before I rebuilt mine. It actually didnt need a rebuild either, It just had a huge oil leak that I could not track down and I got tired of the car one day and decided I would tear it down and rebuild it. Come to find out the oil pan had a decent sized leak and the rear main seal was leaking. It could have been fixed with maybe 100 dollars, but me being the way I am I decided to rebuild the engine.

If it was me, I would drive it until you threw a rod bearing or something similiar. If you have the time and money, you could always purchase another lt1 block and build that one slowly while you still have your car running, that way you can just drop the new engine in when the time comes.

mine lasted about 210,000 before it spun a bearing. after opening it up i saw that all of the bearings were in bad shape. i shoulda atleast been saving for the rebuild
