Rebuild time

Well, looks like I spun a bearing after the cam install. Motor has 180,xxx miles on it so I should have seen this coming. Any suggestions for rebuild? I can't seem to find many pistons for the LT1. I'd like to build up a 355 and bump my compression up a little. Anyone have any suggestions?

Instead of spending a lot of time looking for LT1 pistons, you can use pistons from a traditional Chevy 350. Lots to choose from.

If you are looking to rebuild on the cheap you can get forged pistons with rings for about $300 from Speed Pro. They'll bump stock compress to about 10.65:1 I think.

Ok nevermind, I have my old LE1 355 sitting in the garage. What are you looking to spend and what kind of parts are you looking at? You can PM me if you want.

I'm not really sure yet. This just happened over the weekend. I already have a cc306 and everything else in my sig so I'm just looking at doing a 355 bottom end and re using the rest. I just want to get my heads and bottom end done. I want to make sure this motor lasts a pretty long time.

The difference between the Lt1 pistons and standard sbc pistons are the rings. Mahle utilizes metric rings and thats what came standard on the LT1. Since you will be going with an overbore then you could run with any piston choice that you would like. Keep in mind that all components should match each other and if you are not doing the build yourself keep the builder in the loop on your parts selection.
