Rebuild questions
Okay, I have a few questions. I have a 90k mile engine almost in my 96, and want to heads/cam (GM 847) and want to spin to about 6500-7000rpms safely, with no risk. What stock bottom end pieces keep that from happening? The pistons or rods / both? From what I have read the crank is fine. There will be no use of any power adder on the car, so don't need anything nitrous/FI related in it. I want to put together a good N/A bottom end. I was thinking keep it a 350, getting 6" rods, and getting some keith black pistons. I think with the float/bushed piston/rod set-up (did I say that right?) The key is, after breaking it in, will it take the 6500-7000 safely during the rare trip to the strip night? It will basically almost be a daily driver, I want to have it dependable, and not have to worry... is a bearing letting go? I know the tranny is gonna poop out on me, and hopefully the rearend will be good, since I will try to not use slicks. I want to retain the stock crank, and just get that prepped, the car runs perfect so slips or stumbles, eats no oil, and the oil after 2000 miles on this previous oil change is still looking clean. (First time with mobil 1 filter and oil) No black smoke or anything out the exhaust at anytime, and is a bone stock car. What machining will have to be dont on the block...? I assume check the walls to see if they are within spec, and I want to keep it a 350 I think, don't see the use in wasting a .030 over just for a 355. Let me know, will add more later. Thanks!
