rebuild kits

I am very tight on money since iam still in school but the motor needs to be addressed. Im trying to spend as least money as possible but where do you stop when you already have the whole motor taken apart. the budget is my main concern and i know how these things go so im trying to figure every item im going to need in my total figure. That way i should end up running into surprises, (ya right). here my top end breakdown
300 opti
150 timing chain
150 plugs/wires
100 o2's
400 1.6rr springs pushrods etc
300 custom cam
500 heads (light port and complete rebuild)
100 pcm4less til i can afford a dyno
? for machine work but have a buddy who gets good deals and im going to try to get away with only a hone/
ive been looking at rebuild kits because they come with pistons rods rings gaskets seals. so i if got one of those i should only need gaskets involved for the top end of the motor??? idk exactly so i asking, and trying to figure out all the parts i need. how much am i missing? i know summit has many but dont know which ones are for standard sbcs or lt1s?
help help

If you aren't looking to upgrade the rotating assembly, cam, etc.. and you are really on a tight budget, you may want to consider getting a rebuilt motor and sending yours in as a core.

You won't increase performance, but it takes a lot of time and potential problems out of the equation and you might even get a warranty.

Remanufactured stock longblocks can be had for less than $2k... You'd still need many of the parts on your list though.

Edit: Just saw that you are wanting to do heads and cam on that budget... Scratch everything I said...

What exactly is wrong with it, and what are you wanting from it?

it needs head gaskets and that why i going to rebuild it. I looking for 350rwhp from a small cam and lightly worked heads. I dont think my goals are too high considering some many people are making those numbers with just a cam.
The reason why i want a rebuild kit is because i can get so many parts knocked out for a decent price compared to if i bought them all seperate.

Well for a good professional head port'n polish I would recomend www.eportworks.com (I haven't used them but I hear nothing but good things). His stage I kit is ~1200 IIRC, and will take care of the head machining, springs, valves and cam.
You may want to consider a water pump while it is apart this far too.

As for the summit kits, I would go with this one

It includes all your gaskets, bearings, forged pistons, and a new oil pump. Make sure you request the standard volume oil pump if you don't have aftermarket oil pan. I would also suggest waiting until it is apart before ordering to make sure you get the right size main and rod bearings.

well, my local place quoted me 1700 for my short block (5140 rods, cast crank, srp pistons) with all machine work and assembly.
Then from Bret Bauer you can get a custom ground cam with valve springs, locs, retainers for around 600

then use your stock heads, reuse the parts off of your current motor (opti, WP, etc), and you can do it decently cheap

the same buddy whose in with the machine shop is going to help with the install so i will be doing the engine assembly in his garage. I dont really have any money left over in the budget for aftermarket bottom end items. But i was wondering how much it would be to build it a little stronger?
i know about llyod and his work. I only paying 250 for the rebuild on the heads and 250 for light port work. Nothing le offers would work in my situation, ive already called and ank asked. The cam im going to be using is speed inc cadillac custom cam. It threw down 320/320 rwhp and tq with only a cai, muffler, 1.6rr, and a crank pulley so i think with headers and some work in the heads it will do my goal of 350/350 at the tire
i want to up the comp to 11.1 or 11.3.1, would the kit you sent me allow me to that?
also the car has a new wp, fuel pump, alt, rear end with 3.73 and a eaton dif

For your build the only thing I would consider upgrading is the pistons, the rods and crank are strong enough. (assuming they are in good condition)
