Rebuild

When considering everything for a rebuild, what do you look at first.......Heads and cam set up w/ your cc size or the rotating assembly w/ the dish of the piston and block decked to come up with your desired compression ratio. I know many other things come into play, like street car or race car, etc, etc. I am collecting parts and Im kind of confused on the most logical way to go about this. Right now I have a forged Lunati 3.75 crank that I bought on a pretty good deal and Lunati voodoo 1.65 rr that I also bought on a deal. I got both of these brand new from someone who gave up on their project. Also I have a 52mm tb, and Lucas 42lb injectors. I just need some imput as this will be happening later this year.
BTW, I am using my car as street mostly with maybe a handful of track runs per year. Not dd, but sometimes to work and on nice weekends. It will keep the 6speed. I have 3.73 gears already and I have lots of suspension parts also, more than whats in my sig now. I know Im going to use stock heads and intake ported by AI, I like the 200cc option. Also for this 383 I have planned Im thinking 11.5 to 1 compression is where I'd like to be. Thanks for any imput and help!!

Re: Rebuild

Well, you start with your horsepower target. If you're married to the parts you have, the injectors are going to be good for about 550 flywheel horsepower...a a mild duty cycle of 80%

To get to 11.5:1 compression ratio with a 383 you'll need dished pistons. Flat top pistons will get you around 12.5:1. With the aluminum heads, reverse cooling and good tuning you can run pump gas at this a 12.5 compression ratio.

I'd probably go with 12.5:1 compression (flat top pistons on good rods) and aftermaket aftermarket AFR heads (you can only get so much out of ported stockers) and a good custom cam. and reuse the parts you already have.

Re: Rebuild

will the afr's or trick flows do it out of the box? 12.5 to 1 seems like alot but I know from research you can do it. I just wonder about tuning also. I know I can have a mail order to get me started but is the dyno going to be a necesity for drivability issues. I just dont know who tunes obd1 close to me here in Beckley, WV. I can truly say Im not sure about power goals, I just want it to haul a** and be alot of fun. But at the same time I want it to be a car I can drive down the road. I had a 100 shot on the car already w/ what it has done to it now, Id like that kind of power anytime I hit the gas.
