Rebuild for 355
Rebuild for 355
Ok guys im ready to start on the motor... One long question about the rebuild
What is everything I would need for the rebuild kit after I get the block machined, honed and bored out? And what are good parts that mix with other components to maximize performance.. I dont want to do a half job on it... what type of cams would be nice in the rebuild ? I need All the help and parts listed would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Re: Rebuild for 355
Your question is pretty broad, so it would be difficult to give you an exact list of parts but I'll try to get you going.
Based on your question, I'm assuming that you will need the help of a professional engine builder or at least someone with quite a bit of experience with the LT1 (2nd gen GM) engine.
First of all, what is your budget? How will the car be used? NA or forced induction? This will determine if you need a forged rotating assembly or if you will be ok with quality (forged) rods and pistons and using the stock crank.
You said you didn't want to do it half way, so I would recommend getting with Lloyd Elliot (Elliottsportworks.com) or Advanced Induction (Advancedinduction.com) and discussing your build with them for the best heads/cam combination. This is where you are going to get the best bang for the buck. If you scrimp on this you will be limiting yourself.
If I were starting all over again (and know what I know now) I would do the 24x conversion from the beginning. Problem with that is the cost. If you don't do that, stick with either AC Delco or Petris optispark.
OK, maybe that will get you started. Good luck with your project. Maybe others will chime in for their thoughts. Also post up a signature with a little info on your car. That will be helpful in the future for people looking to help you out.
