rear end setup question

rear end setup question

Puttin in the new"er" differential tonight. Does anyone know where the pinion depth and such should be set to? backlash?

Install guide here may help. It is what I used to do mine.
Not sure on pinion depth but I can tell you that you will want to keep backlash on the tight side. For example if the tolerance is .005 - .012, shoot for @ .007. Mike

It really depends on what all you are replacing (carrier, gears-gm or aftermarket). If you are using aftermarket gears, the pinion depth is marked on the pinion gear. Good luck if you have never done this before.

having an experienced friend help me out. replacing diff unit with zexel, have existing richmond 3.73's.

Your pinion will remain the same. You don't even need to take it out. All you have to worry about is the backlash on the ring gear. Should be pretty easy.
