rear end girdle?

rear end girdle?

ive heard about a few people who get different ones but i never understood what the actual benefit was from changing it. just curious

Bigger girdle = more rear fluid = more cooling = "stronger" rear... plus having a drain and fill plug is and makes life easier.

I believe the idea is that the loading bolts will help prevent movement of the caps while the rear is under load.

I'm not sure that it REALLY does anything useful, other than hold extra fluid and give you drain & refill holes. Plus it looks nice.

One thing that I do suspect is good, although I have no way of proving it, is that the cast aluminum cover imparts more stiffening to the housing than the stamped steel stock cover.

It was a waste of money for me. I should have listened to those that told me to just save the money towards a 12 bolt.

i just bought the aam aluminum cover from slp and its way beefier than the stamped POS so it has to provide some strength add to the differential. it also came with layouts for what to cut out internally to cause the gear oil to flow across it. they advertise that it reduces the temp by up to 80 degrees. obvious benifits there but i dont have a temp guage in the differential so ...... plus the drain and sometimes fill plugs.
