really need help with engine noise

I have an 94 z/28 with 98,000 miles that has an engine noise that sounds like a lifter ticking or a broken valve spring. But it seems to be more in the engine making me think it is a cracked skirt on the piston. The springs have all been checked. If I unplug the #8 cylinder wire the noise seems to not make as much of a ticking noise. Please give me your input. Thanks

Make sure your spark plugs are tight.

Sounds like it could be piston slap from a piston skirt that has collapsed.
