I've never seen an OEM muffler with a single chrome tip like that, and for the $80 they want for it I wouldnt recommend it. You can pick up a hooker, magnaflow, dynomax or other name brand aftermarket muffler for the same price or less.

It looks like a oem muffler, as for the tailpipe that doesnt. Are you looking for a oem replacment or something better for your v-6? Also there is a V-6 section to help you find better answers.

That is an OEM muffler/tailpipe for a 1998 Camaro SS. I know because a buddy of mine had one when his car was new off the showroom floor.

They didn't weld the tip on. They welded the inlet to the muffler on. I think the stock inlet is 3", while they changed it to 2.25" so that you could use it for a V6.

If you post on the parts wanted section of this forum you probably can pick a stock dual out for next to nothing .

don't even bother with that! my brother bought a magnaflow XL for $39 + $10 S&H. Sounds awsome, especially in the lower RPM's. as for the tailpipe and tip, We got a 90 deg. bend tailpipe from autozone for $5 and a nice chrome split (dual) tip for $10 ( really nice). Why would you want a stock sound?

Thanks everyone for all your replies and input!

I won't be purchasing that muffler, but I was curious about its authenticity.

Over the weekend, I went to a local muffler shop and bought a Borla Pro XS and a custom tail pipe with chrome tip. For everything including the installation, I paid $170 (US), which I don't think is a bad deal, and my V6 sounds much nicer. And I can feel an improvement in performance for sure, especially top end on the highway. Although, I was not "blown away" with any improvement over the stock sound. It doesn't sound like rice, and there is a nice rumble at idle. I can't really hear the exhaust while driving, and only minimal at high RPMs. The sound is still better than stock, mind you. In any event, maybe I am expecting too much from a muffler change. I don't think my exhaust work is yet complete.... my next step is to replace my 10 year old rusted out cat with a high flow model.

Personally, I have always been very picky about custom exhaust work. One thing I particularly don't like, is chrome or any tail pipe tip on these cars which sticks out too much. I told the shop I didn't want it too far out or too low, but the tip is exiting a little too far for my taste. At various points throughout the weekend, I would site and observe the tailpipe at every angle, and something about it just didn't make me 100% happy. I am going to go back to the muffler shop tomorrow and get them to shorten the pipe by a couple of inches. I know they won't like it, but too bad. For some reason, ever since I had my 3rd gen Trans Am and stuck on some of those **** RKSport dual tips, I never likes too much visibility on the chrome tips. I think they look sleek and neat when kept to a low profile, exiting as minimally as possible.

Thanks again for all your advice :-)
