Unhappy Re: 383 vibration

I just installed my 383 all forged parts built for nitrous.
Balanced and blue printed.
I'm having vibration from 2000 rpm and up???

What does this sound like to you????
Would a fluid damper solve the problem???
Give me some ideas!!!!!!!

Internal or external ballanced assembly?
Manual or automatic?

Re: 383 vibration

Make sure your driveshaft is back on the car correctly with the hash marks lined up the same way you took it off I had that same issue when i did my clutch job....give that a shot, if its still an issue...i'd chase down some simple issues like engine and trans mounts. If the motor was 0 (neutral) ballanced, and u put a 0/neutral ballanced flywheel on, then you should be fine. Check out the drive shaft...Common issue..

Re: 383 vibration

Are you using the stock flywheel? If so it is going to put you of balance since it has a weight on it for the external balance stock LT1.

If you are using an aftermarket flywheel was it zero balanced by a shop before you put it on? Not simply "zero balanced" from the manufacturer?

either of these will put you in milkshake territory, anyone else have any ideas?

Re: 383 vibration

Heres the problem I had. I bought my stroker from a guy that had already built it for his automatic car. I out my stock flywheel and clutch on. the assy. was internally balances and the flexplate was zero balanced. the stock flywheel wasnt. I hadone terrible viberation from idleall the way up. I drove it for about 20 miles and pulled it back out. Ordered a SLP billet steel flywheel that was suppose to be zero balanced. Stuck it back in and had the same problem. Ended up getting the SLP flywheel zerobalanced and fixed the problem. However in the 20 some miles I drove the car I tore it back down to check for damage. The crank bearings were " wiped" bad and replacedthe crank and rod bearings. Not saying that this is your problem especially if you sent the flywheel/ flexplate to the machine shop that done the balancing work.

Re: 383 vibration

Exactly right...get it "zero" balanced and you will be good to go...dont drive it at all until..
