rattling cat

Every now and again there is this rattle from the cat in the lower rpm range. I belive it got hit by some sticks and debris in the road durring the last storm. Its really starting to **** me off. I also noticed some small metal flecks out of the tail pipes. I guessing the cat is toast. Will it rot out by itself or do i got take it off and hollow it out till febuary emissions.

Thanks a lot

If the catalyst in the case is beginning to break up, you need to take one of two courses of action.

1.) Replace it with a straight-pipe or new cat-converter.

2.) Gut it.

If you let it go unfixed, there's a good chance it will continue to keep breaking up, and possibly clog your exhaust. Your headers would glow red-hot, and you wouldn't make it above a certain engine RPM, and experience several other unwanted running conditions. Take care of it a.s.a.p.!

it could clog on its own. You can hollow it out till emissions testing. A off road pipe is better than hollowing it. Never liked the sound of a hollow cat. you can tell its hollowed. or you could just get a new cat
