ram air or not to ram air
my 95 z28 lt1 is sportn the "98-02 ram air II" hood (http://www.carhoods.com) the hood was on there when i bought it and the 98 front clip conversion was done as well.
Who makes a ram air kit for the lt1?
Would it fit with this particular hood and front clip conversion?
and would it really be worth while (+HP wise) to dremmel out the hood scoops and install the ram air kit?
Great idea, get the dremmel and fiber glass out? -OR- Waste of time, stick with your moroso cold air intake and be happy with your fake *** hood scoops?
HELP
Thanks,
CJ

Re: ram air or not to ram air
Id say be happy with your fake *** hood scoop.
Ram air really isnt a sugnificant improvement over a CAI, if any.
It just has the cool factor
Spend the cash somewhere else for a bigger improvement.

Re: ram air or not to ram air
You could convert to an LS1 style intake set-up (filter ,box, and ducting not the engine intake manifold). They flow actually better modified than a majority of the CAIs for LT1 cars.
Re: ram air or not to ram air
The LT1 Ram-Air H.O and Ultra Z were the best Ram-Air setups, but i dont think they will work with your LS1 hoods. The LS1 ram air hoods had the intake snake all around. The Ram-Air H.O and Ultra Z setups were both made by SLP and it was a straight ram setup. You would see a definately gain for this. It seals off all of the air from the inside of the engine bay, and only sucks air from outside of the engine bay. The forcing of the air at higher speeds also adds a few hp.
Here is a pic of my Ram-Air H.O hood that i repaired cut out to make a single opening, cut out the water trap, and widened the opening.

A normal hood would be even. Mine took a deer at 75mph so it's the best i could do. Anyway i wouldnt put LS1 ram air on your car. I would leave the look you have now. It wouldnt be worth it except for the sound. I'm not even sure if you can use an LS1 ramair setup on an LT1, i'm sure you could with a litlte modification. Just to let you know i am paying $300 for the SLP air box kit and i have a CAI. I like the sound of Ram-Air, and being able to say i have ram-air
. Also expect to see some pretty good gains with what i have done to my hood.

Re: ram air or not to ram air
That doesn't matter. Yours will always sound better than ANY ricer, and look better. May not be faster, but thats only one aspect of it. Performance, Sound, and Looks are the 3 most important things. I don't care how fast your 4 banger is, it still sounds like crap.

Do you have wind tunnel data showing the low and high pressure frontal zones of an LT1 Z28 or WS6 simulating 100MPH and dyno results to coincide with this situation?
Not trying to start anything, but unless you have some real-world physical data...no dice.
Re: ram air or not to ram air
Yea, i'm not startin anything either, i thought i saw a post on advanced tech a while ago about this but i would have to look it up, maybe later i'll look into it, i'm sure it may help a bit but the performance gain isn't that great, thats all i was saying. In my book the money it would take to make it work would be better spent on other mods.
