Raising the roof on porting heads

How high can you raise the roof when porting heads? I plan on only removing casting flash from the floor and sides but I was wondering if I can take about .010 off the roof.

Also planned is a bowl blend and removing the lip around the valve seats.

generally shooting from the hip is not a good practice when porting heads, while it sounds easy enough it is actually very easy to do more harm than good

if you dont know what your doing i recomend leaving this to the pros

Good advice, leave it to someone who ports heads for a living.

Either way you can easily take .010" off the roof of the ports without a hitch.

Yep, I think the pros arethe best choice. I've practiced on a few dummy heads and I feel comfortable with a grinder, but I'll leave it to them.

Thanks for the advice guys.

No much air in the roof anyway

and its easy to go through a Lt1 head.....they are thin to begin with

Yeah, I wouldn't feel as comfortable until I had a few cross-sections cut out to measure thickness. Although I have access to a flow-bench, it would still take a few more trial and errors to get the flow and velocity where I'd want it.

Both AI and Lloyd Elliot have good reputations. I'll likely leave the heads to them.

Thanks
