Radiator Question
Radiator Question
For legal reasons i had a mechanic replace my radiator. My old radiator had the yellow/orange coolant. I notice now my new radiator has the green stuff. Is this a big deal or what? Also i need to replace my low coolant sensor. I think I see it but how hard is it to get off and replace? Thanks for your help
The green antifreeze shouldnt make a difference. That is what I run in my car now and I have been running it for a couple of years. The low coolant sensor is pretty easy to change but you might have wanted to have done it when the antifreeze wasnt in the rad. The sensor has a small pin that locks it into the radiator. Once you look at it you will know what I am talking about. Just pull the pin out and you can pull the sensor straight out of the radiator.
The Green Coolant is the older type of coolant that needs to be changed/flushed every so 30,000 miles. The new oragne "dexcool" is a special cooalnt that does not build up electrolytes therefore it is not needed to be changed for about every 5 years. Mixing the two is bad (not harmful for car but....) because the green coolant will cancel out the long life of the dexcool, You dont want to add dexcool (orange/red/yellow) coolant to a Standard (Green) coolant radiator without a complete and thorough system flush. If you had dexcool and went to green your fine.
