radiator leak?
radiator leak?
i just got my radiator fixed last week and topped the liquid off when the engine was cold about half and inch above the cold line. when i came home today i noticed antifreeze under my car. i can't really notice where it is comming from but it's not the radiator it's dripping in the front of the engine, i'm thinking it's the water pump. does the overfilled liquid come out from the water pump or is there a overfill line that comes out of the plastic tube which i topped off the antifreeze. when i overfilled the coolant does it come out of the water pump or where does it come out from? i noticed a hole where my water pump is and it's smoking lightly as if water has been there or has touched it. any suggestions of what might have happend? did i just overfill the radiator? or is there something wrong?
Its pretty hard to overfill a radiator, that is why you have an overflow container to the side behind the battery. excess fluid will wind up in there. You water pump has a weep hole in the bottom that will **** all over your opti-spark when it leaks. the water pumps bearing taking a turd will cause fluid to leak from the weep hole. which is what it sounds like your car is doing. Be warned that if you let it keep pissing on your opti (assuming it is) your opti will not be among the living for much longer. get that leak fixed quick.
snkeatr you were exactly right. i changed a hose that had some holes in it that i thought was giving me the problem, but when i started it up, it was still leaking. turns out, fluid is coming out of the water pump. how would i go about fixing this? do i need to replace the water pump? or is there some easier, less expensive way of doing this? thanks for your help.
afraid not man.
just bite the bullet and change out the pump. I found a couple on ebay heres a link. if you've got about 250 or so laying around you can go with an electric set-up that will net you a few ponies 7 to 10 HP I think, and make future changes really simple. I run the meziere and love it because i can circulate coolant while the engine is off. works well in the staging lanes to keep things cool.
