Quieter Borla?

I have a Borla Catback and at this point I have the plate with the smallest circle on now, and at this point my only resource is to put the most restrictive plate on which totally blocks one side of the pipe and sends everything out one side, I did not want to do this because I think it would reduce my low end performance that i like, with the plate that I have on now, I would be willing to reduce the performance a little with the the most restrictive plate if it would give me a deeper more mellow tone, which is what I thought I was going to get with the Borla in the first place, but so far dosen't seem to be the case, or could it be that I have the wrong exhaust for the sound I was looking for? By the way I have a 1995 Z28

I have the Borla and I love the sound.. It's a very deep rumble, but not overly loud to be irritating.. It's perfect I think.. But I don't know for sure which plate is in there since I bought it and it was the only one they had.. I would guess one of the middle ones though, just play around with the different ones you have.. Try opening it up a little more, maybe you'll like that more..

for a stock motor, or any motor that a 3" exhaust is appropriate for that matter, the borla muffler is not very restrictive at all. Don't hesitate to block it off completely if that is the sound you like.

here, check this out.

A mellow tone is not going to be achieved with some unmuffled exhaust escaping...it is going to sound raspy. Sounds to me like you are going after a muffled tone. Block off the Borla and see if you like it...it wont hurt your performance... and still flows very well. Maybe you should have went with a GMMG chambered cat-back(GMMGinc.net)...Im still considering swapping my Borla out for one.

Thanks for the feedback, does anyone have a sound clip of this GMMG exhaust system I keep hearing about?

try this

I have Borla and I love the sound it has, with stock manifolds and cats I had the second to last (largest) plate. It sounded deep and not raspy. I am now putting shorties on with straight pipe all the way back to the borla and intend on keeping the plate how it is. It sounds great from inside the car and out. Instead of putting a smaller holed plate on, I would try putting a bigger one on so you can get the whole effect of Borla instead of cramming it through a lil whole which would most likely cause a whistle type effect (i.e: raspy) - just an idea. You might like it more that way.

If you want it more quite put the solid plate in it, you'll still have two outlets, it'll be like an slp. With all the exhaust muffled it should be more of a deeper mellow tone.

I put that full plate in when I get the car inspected...quiets it down nice, but stills has a throaty, mellow tone.

You would not believe the difference the soild plate will make. It's just a hair louder than stock.
