Quick Question - Have to drain coolant before pulling heads?
Quick Question - Have to drain coolant before pulling heads?
I just got the last bolt out of the bottom side of one of my heads and it was spewing a lot more coolant than I expected. Should I drain the entire radiator before pulling the bolts out, or is ok to just let the heads bleed out some when you pull them and leave the radiator alone?
I just didn't want to sit there and try to catch 3 gallons coming out of a bolt hole all night or drain the radiator of almost new coolant for no reason.
Thanks,
Craig

the easiest way i found was to drain the radiator then pull the knock sensor found on the pass. side of the engine block i made the mistake of just draining the radiator but there is still a fair amount of coolant in the block

Thanks Mike... I did that too and caught a little more but unfortunately it had already drained most of it and ended up in my garage floor.
Thanks for the reply!
