Quick question about GM parts!
Do some GM parts have specific model numbers?
For instance, if I buy an opti and take it back, will it have a number on the opti that reconciles with a number on the receipt? Or are all optis named John Doe?
Thanks!

Here's the scenario... I bought an opti, and it failed. Well, I sent the opti to a friend to mess around with. Then I found out about the 1 year warranty from GM.
I have another bad opti sitting here. I am wondering if I can take it back in place of my other opti because I might not be able to get it back before the 1year warranty expires.
Will GM be able to distinguish one opti from another - voiding my warrant claim?

My receipt has a "BIN" number. Anyone know what that means?

BIN number is probably a number indicating when/where/who made it like what shop it came from...just a guess, but that sounds like what it would mean....
I would try to use the old one, and if they say anything, "Oh dang, I thought this might happen...I have another old one from before and I sent in the wrong one..."
Oh yeah, and just look at the reciept and the opti, see if you can find any numbers that match up, besides P/N.

Sometimes a "BIN" number is just the storage location (or bin or tub or shelf) where the part is located in the warehouse. It's used to put parts in stock and retrieve them. If someone puts the wrong part in a bin, you could get something very different from what you ordered if they only checked the location and not the part number.

. I called bout it after I posted and that's exactly what they said. I guess your sig quote is true
.FWIW: the first column on the receipt listed another four digit number. I forget what the column title was, but it turned out to be another service department number. From what I understand and experienced today there is not a serial number on the optis.
Maybe someone else with much wisdom *cough*shoebox*cough* can verify this.
