quick cam only guys come in....
I'm curious how fast the lt1 cam only guys are running now days. I sold my lt1 formula a few yrs ago and went to the ls1 world, then ls2 world, but got a 96 formula now to start playing with.
How fast are you guys going cam only(meaning full bolt ons and stock heads)? I know Frank is running crazy times with a Joe O. cam.
Is 11's possible on the motor, here's what I'm thinking of doing:
60k mile shortblock
Prostars with 325/50/15 mt dr's and skinnies up front
built th350 with 3800ish stall(still undecided on what stall I want to run)
3.73's in the 10 bolt
long tubes, cai, ewp
cc306, 1.6 rr's, etc
No front sway bar
sfc's and boxed stock lca's (might go with front hals if I have to)
No ac or front bumper support, keeping full weight otherwise
I'd like to keep the rpm's under 6500, so I'm not sure if I want to go with the cc306 or not, I just know it's a cheap cam to pick up.
The car will then have a dedicated fuel system and the 2 stage nitrous hooked up. I'm sure down the road it'll get a shortblock and I'll go back to some of Lloyds heads, but I'm wanting to stay cheap for now. Also I'll run a tighter converter because this will be street car and the whole goal is to hook HARD on the streets, so I don't see it 60ft'ing any better than a low 1.6 on the motor.
Let me know what you guys think.

with a 306 ive been 12.05 spinning, with a fuddle 3200 and 373 in a stock 10 bolt, i dont know why but i see alot of 305 going faster than 306, i could never find out why, i had my shift points at 6700, id do a 305 for sure!
just get a good brand stall, it can literally make it or break it

Thats the truth and too many people don't understand how much of a difference a stall can make.
That being said, in my lt1 formula I had before I ran a midwest 3000/2.5str, 3.73's, 26x11.50x15 et street and it would dead hook to a 1.65-1.67 EVERY PASS, and on the streets it'd dead hook also.
Now in my ls1 camaro I ran the yank PT4400 then the PT4000, and I will just say WOW.
It did a 1.54 soft launching it on 275/40/17 mt dr's with the pt4000, because I was afraid of the stock driveshaft breaking, and it carried the front heavy 17's about a foot. Although, I couldn't get it to hook on cold tires like I liked on the streets so I will be going with a tighter converter this time around to get it to hook hard and consistent each time on the streets.

11.70's @ 113 in a cam only 503 104k motor. CAI, 1 3/4 LT's, 1.6 rockers, Hydra-rev, 52mm tb, underdrive pulley, electric WP, Moser 4.56 9", Aluminum DS, Edge 3800, Hoosier 28X10's, stock TA with poly mount, airbag in rt. rear, frame connectors, no skinnies, raceweight about 3480 with driver.
11.73 @ 113.66 1.526 60 ft. 7.39 8th mile into a slight headwind. MadZ tune.
Your combo really favors the smaller 503 IMHO. The 306 would have probably worked in my setup pretty well though. Believe me, you need some gear and stall for that 306 to et. better than the 503. I whipped 306 guys all the time.

I know I won't be running a lot of gear, but with a 3800-4000 stall it should come out hard enough, and with a good stall it'll keep the rpm's high enough and quick enough to work with the cc306.
I've always built cars with SMALL cams and little or NO lope, but this one I want to actually lope and make people sh*t.
If I can get 112mph out of it I'll be happy because it'll easily do 122+ on the spray and should 60ft in the 1.4 range and go high 10's.
Well, I was taking it to 6600 through the traps. The 3800 Edge flashed from an idle to about 4200, and shift extensions were in the 5100 range. It was loose but it worked. I did not lock it in high gear although I tried to. The single disc lock up on the Edge really sucked. I later discovered that the power drop I was feeling at the end of the track was not because of the cam running out, it was valve float at about 6350. We later confirmed it on the dyno so the hydra rev was installed. It helped some but just use beehives and set them up as tight as you can. This cam at 725 idle sounds WAY bigger than it is. It's a head turner!

I loved that converter for a highway punch.
LE2 cam here on stock heads, no notable times yet but im going the same route as yourself. shooting for 11's on motor with some serious suspension LCA's, SFC, Tunnel mount TA, K-member, A-arms, drag launch kit w/ bag, 3800 edge or yank, 12-bolt w/ 4.30's, LE ported intake, prostars all around, and then looking for a plate kit or direct port to run a 150-200 shot for the 10's. for now this is my christmas wish list but hopefully in the next month or so im gonna get some dyno tunning and shoot for 11's with some weight redux and good weather. so far im at 13.4@109 2.360ft w/ 7 cylinders, short shifting stock 154k tranny on street tires
.
I got to hand it to these guys with the 503 cuz they really do put down some great times.
