quick cai question

i was wondering if anyone has used one of those shiny intakes for some other vehicle. like an import, you can get those at the local parts store for around the same price as a homemade cai, i would make one of those but i dont like the looks of those. i did a search and couldnt find anything. thanks for your replies.

anything that fits will work...with a straight pipe though I would be worried about interference from the radiator cover/brake system there. The Homemade systems make 2 dents where those connect.

Real quick, does anyone know the diameter of the intake? Our Advance Auto doesn't have Spectre, they have APC (aparently spectre was bought out), and they have on in stock with the filter that will work, but it is a 3" diameter tube. Also, with those filters, can you clean them?

What type of gains did you see with it? Most systems that I have seen are 3.5", but they have to do quite a bit to get it to fit in the tight area between the ABS and the radiator. Also, can you clean it with the K&N stuff, or does it have to be something else?

Yes I did do this, and yes it looks sweet. Went to Autozone, and used the chrome intake for a Civic, along with a matching filter. The brand is Spectre. Unsure of the part number, but the local store should have it in stock. You will have to cut the intake tube, unless you have a 93 or speed density. It fits perfectly in the bend, and there was a slight hood clearance issue, so it did rub a little spot on the tube. All in all, it was SUPER cheap. Total cost = 50 bucks, total time in it = 45 minutes.

I have heard of some people having problems with a similar setup, connecting the intake to the MAF. I used a 3.5" coupling from Home Depot. The intake is only 3", so you have to fab something up to make up the difference. We cut the old coupling, and wrapped it tightly around the intake, then slapped on the coupling. You can't even tell.

I can find a link for you where I got the information if you want. PM me.
I did the exact same thing, right down to the home depot fernco coupling. But i recently did change it. i added another intake tube. So now the filter sits right behind the bumper in that little pocket. Ill try to get some pics up.
