You can do it with it down or up.. just vent the bleeder screws with the motor off untill coolant comes out of them in a stream. then make sure the radiator is full and drive it.

Here.. Learn from my stupid mistakes... Do it with the car in a perfectly horizontal surface if you are using the bleeder screw at the radiator..

I attempted it with the car in a very slight incline... not even half of the coolant came out. I am glad nobody was watchin..

I didnt raise the front... just got my arm unserneath it... and loosed up the screw. This time I got smart and turned the car the other way. Oh yes I filled her up with water before I cranked her up off course Then I undid the screw again and this time she empty herself out. its a funny feeling when all tha coolant runs down your arm to your armpit.... So be careful. I am glad my engine wasnt up to operating temp when I un-screwd that bolt thing..... get my point?

MentalCaseOne I think you are talking abou the drain plug.

Can someone explaing how you are supposed to bleed the cooling system? I am about to change out my weeping waterpump before it explodes all over my opti.

with the motor off it should be air coming out... Just make sure the radiator and over flow are filled to the proper level.

radiator full, and if anything i have too much in the resivoir.. Also haha should the liquid come out Pure (meaning 0 bubbles in it) when i bleed the line (the one with the screw driver not the one on the tstat) it comes out somewhat foamy Is that cuz i have the valve just cracked open or is that still air excaping the system

sounds like air is still coming out you can open them pretty far without the coming all the way out. It should flow out in a stream with no air bubbles.

Mine gave me all kinda **** trying to get it working with out air in it. It should take about 4 gallons, yet ine only ate up (BARELY) 3. The engine sat since 96 empty and i didnt no the conditions of the cooling system, but anyways ...

When i filled up the radiator, i had both the bleeders open ( And a rag over the Opti for good measure ) I filled it to the fill neck in the rad. Not a SINGLE drop came out of eitehr bleeder. I waited 2 mins, checked the fluid, same posistion. So i had to actually blow water through the lines ( 5-10 PSI from a compressor with a rag around the air tip blowing into the radiator filler cap. Then antifreeze bubbled out of the bleeders, and then a steady stream, so i cosed both, then checked, it was a hiar low in the rad. I toped it off, filled the overflow resivoir to the correct spot as well. After i ran the car for about 20 mins at idle ( To get the T-Stat open. ) I let the car cool, and added about half a quart more of antifreeze. I ran it again till it opened, let it cool completely ( Next morning ) and added a little bit more. For some reason my system took a **** when trying to fill/flush it. I cant figure it out, so i jsut kept an eye on the temp the past few times ive run it and check the fluid for a few times ... If you have this problem, there really isnt a solution that i could come up with, so jsut keep a good look over things for the first few openings of the Tstat to make sure all the air is out of the system.
