Question? Newbie

Hey everyone, I just joined up. Here is the latest for me. I am going to be turning 16, and I have saved some money to get me a car.. Well, I have been looking thru everything from Audi-Yugo lol. I have searched thru all cars. Now I have been raised a Ford boy all my life.. and I still love them and all, but I am thinking about getting me a camaro Anyway I have been thinking of getting something along the lines of a Dodge Daytona or maybe even a 240SX Se, 1st gen Eclipse but it seems that if its imported like the 240SX you actually gotta put some cash into it before it'll go anywhere.. the dodge daytona can move stock, but add more and you got power too. Well anyway I cant find a Daytona, so I am looking for a camaro I know I should be able to find one with the abudance of them I was looking at gettin a 3rd gen? LT1 I think? Correct? Anyway, I was hoping that some of you might know where I should start to look for like basic specs of the 3rd generation? I mean are they better than the 2nd generation ones? I have also looked at those, but they dont have the sweet look like the 3rd gen. Ah, before I get flamed about gettin a camaro at 16.. yeah I know.. I dont drive irresonsibly plus I am actually buying this car. mommy and daddy cant pay for it so, its all mine. I basicallly want to know if the aftermarket support for these cars are any good? I will eventually get another car, but I am hoping that this car is reliable? I never erally heard anything bad about its reliablity. I am new to cars in general, but my dad is a master mechanic for Ford, Dodge, Chevy, so I am willing to learn all I can. So what info can u guys give me?

If you are looking for a 3rd gen, why didn't you post this in the 3rd gen section? Only 4th gens have LT1s.

If your looking for a fast car with great aftermarket support you are going in the right direction.
These cars stock will beat any of those you mentioned in your post, you can buy a decent LT1 4th Gen for very little cash if you shop around.
Reliability is good as well if its takin care of.

Ditto, the aftermarket for these cars has gotten rather large, and they're a great bank for the buck when stock. However, the problem that you may run into is going to be the ability to find one for a decent price that hasn't been beat on. I don't know about how much you have to spend, but a decent car with relatively low mileage that doesn't have problem is probably going to set you back in the area of 5K. Granted, there's cars out there for less, some as low as 3K, but they're mostly in rough shape. There's diamonds in the rough, but it all depends on how much you have to spend. Just my $.02

Good luck in your search, you won't be disappointed with a 4th Gen F-Body. One word to heed: Learn to work on it yourself.

Thanks guys. How do these cars rack up against the LS1? I am going to get my dad to show me how to basically do everything I need to be able to do. I am soo looking forward to this? Is there any other things I might need to look out for? Also, how are these cars with Forced Induction? How much can I look maxing out Torque on the LT1 engine?

LT-1 v. LS1 debates get rather nasty around here...

Stock for stock, the LS1 makes more power. However, it is very easy to make an LT1 make more power than an LS1, and vice versa. Point is: both engines have a lot of potential, and are pretty close to being equal. My advice is not to worry about the motor, they are both good. Just buy the best 4th gen that you can find.
